Etymology: < French myronique (A. Bussy 1840, in Jrnl. de pharmacie 26 42) < ancient Greek μύρον unguent, perfume (of uncertain etymology; perhaps cognate with smear n.) + French -ique -ic suffix. Compare myronate n.

Chemistry. Now rare.

myronic acid n. a sulphur-containing acidic glycoside, C₁₀H₁₇NO₉S₂, of which sinigrin, obtained from the plant black mustard, is the potassium salt.
