Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Greek μυρολόγι, μοιρολόγι.
Etymology: < modern Greek μυρολόγι lament, variant of μοιρολόγι (see myriologue n.); compare -logy comb. form. Compare French myriologie (1829 or earlier), and earlier myriologue n.
Esp. in Greece or among Greek-speaking people: an extempore lament or funeral song, usually sung by a woman; a myriologue. Also: the action or occupation of performing such laments.
