Etymology: < German Myricin (J. F. John in Chemische Tabellen der Pflanzenanalysen (1814) 42) < classical Latin myrīca myrica n. + German -in -in suffix¹. Compare French myricine (1827 or earlier).

Chemistry. Now rare.

A waxy ester obtained as a residue when beeswax is treated with boiling alcohol, found also in some plant waxes; melissyl palmitate, CH₃(CH₂)₁₄COOC₃₀H₆₁.
