Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: multi- comb. form, Latin iugātus.
Etymology: < multi- comb. form + classical Latin iugātus (see jugate adj.), after French multijuguées, plural (1828 in the passage translated in quot. 1831 at sense 1; also citing post-classical Latin multijugata ). Compare slightly earlier multijugous adj., and later jugate adj.
Botany.
1. Of a leaf: having more than one pair of leaflets.
