Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French muguet.
Etymology: < French muguet (c1200 in Old French as musguet in this sense) < Old French mugue musk (see nutmeg n.) + -et -et suffix1. Compare later muguet n. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mɒ·gėt) /ˈmʌɡɪt/.
Obsolete.
1. Any of several fragrant plants of the family Rubiaceae, as woodruff, Galium odoratum, and (more fully golden mugget) crosswort, Cruciata laevipes.With quot. 1578 cf. mugweed n. 2, mugwort n. 3.petty mugget: see the first element.
