Origin: A borrowing from Arabic. Etymon: Arabic mudīriyya.
Etymology: < Arabic mudīriyya < mudīr mudir n. + -iyya , suffix forming feminine derivational nouns. Compare slightly later mudirate n. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (muə·rie /muːˈdɪərɪeɪ/.
