Etymology: < multi- comb. form + occupied adj., after multi-occupation n. Compare multi-occupy v. and earlier under-occupied adj. at under-occupation n. Derivatives.
Of a dwelling: occupied by more than one family or by several unrelated people, usually with shared kitchen and other facilities. Also (of a commercial building): occupied by more than one business.
