Origin: Apparently formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: mouse n., web n.
Etymology: Apparently < mouse n. + web n., though the reason for the application is not clear.Perhaps so called because dusty cobwebs are suggestive of the colour of mice, or because cobwebs and mice are both associated with neglected buildings.
