Etymology: < mouse n. + eared adj.1In mouse-eared chickweed , mouse-eared cress , mouse-eared hawkweed (see Compounds) after mouse-ear n. Compare also the parallel formation represented by Scots mouse-luggit ( < mouse n. + lugged adj.2) in mouse-luggit weed mouse-ear chickweed, attested from the mid 19th cent.
Having ears resembling those of a mouse; having an appendage resembling a mouse's ear; spec. (of a willow) †having catkins (obsolete). Now chiefly in compounds (see sense 2).
