Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Greek μόριον , -plasty comb. form.
Etymology: < ancient Greek μόριον part, part of the body ( < μόρος (see mero- comb. form1) + -ιον , diminutive suffix; compare -y suffix4) + -plasty comb. form, perhaps after French morioplastie (1836).Compare also post-classical Latin morioplastice, morioplastica in mid 19th-cent. writers:1848 R. Dunglison Med. Lexicon (ed. 7) 558/1 Morioplasticē,..the restoration of lost parts.1857 R. G. Mayne Expos. Lexicon Med. Sci. (1860) Morioplastica,..morioplastics. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mǫ·rioplæsti) /ˈmɒrɪəʊplæstɪ/.
