Etymology: < Spanish morenosita (D. A. Casares 1851, in Revista minera 2 176) < the name of A. Moreno (1796–1852), Spanish chemist + -s- (by analogy with mineral names with a first element ending in -s : see discussion s.v. manganosite n.) + -ita -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy.

An orthorhombic hydrated nickel sulphate, NiSO₄·7H₂O, occurring as green crystals formed by the oxidation of nickeliferous sulphides.
