Etymology: < Morellius, Latinized form of the surname of J. Morély (?1524–94), French-born Genevan theologian, who proposed the reforms + -an suffix.
Obsolete.
Of church government: radically democratic in accordance with the reforms advocated by Morély. (Chiefly used with reference to religious disputes in 17th-cent. New England.)Morély proposed that the adult males belonging to a particular congregation should collectively have supreme doctrinal and disciplinary authority over it.
