Etymology: < Middle French mordicatif caustic, irritant (early 14th cent. in Old French) and its etymon post-classical Latin mordicativus (5th cent.; from mid 13th cent. in British sources) < mordicat- , past participial stem of mordicare (see mordicate v.) + -ivus -ive suffix. Compare mordicant adj. and slightly earlier mordication n.
Obsolete.
