释义

Mottn.

Brit. /mɒt/, U.S. /mɑt/
Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Mott.
Etymology: < the name of Sir Nevill Francis Mott (1905–96), English physicist, who investigated the electrical properties of solids ( Proc. Physical Soc. (1949) A. 62 416, Canad. Jrnl. Physics (1956) 34 1356, etc.).
Physics.
Used attributively with reference to Mott's theories of semiconduction; Mott insulator n. a material which does not conduct electricity because the concentration of valency electrons in it is below a critical value. Mott transition n. the discontinuous process, involving a sudden change in the number of charge carriers, which takes place when a material passes from an insulating state to a metallic conducting state (or vice versa).
