Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French moquette.
Etymology: < French moquette (1608; 1578 in Middle French as mocade : see mockado n.1; 1585 in form mosquette in sense ‘eastern carpet’, perhaps after the Middle French words for mosque: see mesquita n.).
A fabric with a thick pile used for carpeting and upholstery; an article, esp. a carpet, made of this.
