Etymology: < moon n.1 + eye n.1 In sense 1 after post-classical Latin oculus lunaticus (late 4th cent.); the name refers to the periodic return of the disease; compare Dutch maanoog.
1. An eye (of a horse) affected with recurrent uveitis; (also, in plural) the disorder itself. Obsolete.
