Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: morpho- comb. form, -nomy comb. form.
Etymology: < morpho- comb. form + -nomy comb. form. R. G. Mayne gives a Latin form morphonomia (see quot. 1857 at main sense). N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mǫɹfǫ·nŏmi) /mɔːˈfɒnəmɪ/.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
The branch of science that deals with the form of animals, plants, and crystals; morphology.
