Etymology: < French montebrasite (A. Des Cloizeaux 1871, in Comptes rendus de l'Acad. des Sci. 73 306) < Montebras , the name of a hill in the department of Creuse in central France where the mineral is found + -ite -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy.

A triclinic phosphate of lithium, sodium, and aluminium usually occurring as white to greyish-white transparent to translucent crystals.
