Etymology: < scientific Latin moroxylicus (in Acidum moroxylicum : M. H. Klaproth 1803, in Allgemeines Jrnl. der Chem. 10 9) < Morus , genus name (see moric adj.) + -oxylon (in e.g. Xanthoxylon xanthoxylon n.) + -icus -ic suffix. N.E.D. (1908) indicates the stress as moroˈxylic.

moroxylic acid n. a substance isolated from the bark of the white mulberry, Morus alba; (probably) morin. Cf. moric adj.
