Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Chinook. Or (ii) a borrowing from Kalapuya. Etymons: Chinook muláliš; Kalapuya mule:lis.
Etymology: < Clackamas Chinook muláliš or Tualatin and Santiam Kalapuya mule:lis, interpreted as English plurals. O.E.D. Suppl. (1976) gives the pronunciation as (molā·li) /məʊˈlɑːliː/.
