Etymology: < Tagalog balisong.Compare also Balisong , the name of a town in the province of Batangas in the Philippines (compare Batangas knife n.), although it is unclear whether or how that name relates to the word for a knife.
Philippine English.
A folding pocket knife having a handle consisting of two parts which divide and pivot round to enclose the blade, typically used as a weapon; = Batangas knife n. Also more fully balisong knife. Cf. butterfly knife n. (a) at butterfly n. Compounds 2a.
