Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mois.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman mois, moiz, meis, meins and Middle French, French mois month (c1100 in Old French as meis ; 1535 in Middle French in plural as mois in sense ‘menstruation’ (now archaic)) < classical Latin mēnsis month (see menses n.). In mois of Easter and mois of Pasch probably after Old French mois de Pasques (1286, 1304); compare also Anglo-Norman mense de Pac (c1300), post-classical Latin mensis Paschae (1247).
Obsolete.
1. Law. A month. mois of Easter n. (also mois of Pasch) the month or fortnight ending on Low Sunday, the Easter law term; Low Sunday itself; (occasionally) the Easter dues, formerly payable on or before Low Sunday. mois of Saint Michael n. the Michaelmas law term.
