Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: mono- comb. form, symmetrical adj.
Etymology: < mono- comb. form + symmetrical adj., after German monosymmetrisch (1873 in the passage translated in quot. 1875 at sense 1). Compare monosymmetry n., slightly later monosymmetric adj., and also polysymmetrical adj.
Now rare.
