Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek μονοστροϕικός.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek μονοστροϕικός, adjective < ancient Greek μονο- mono- comb. form + στροϕή strophe n. + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare classical Latin monostrophus , Byzantine Greek μονόστροϕος consisting of a single strophe (14th cent.). Compare later monostrophe n.
