Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: mono- comb. form, strophe n.
Etymology: < mono- comb. form + strophe n., probably after monostrophic adj. Compare Spanish monóstrofe (1780). N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mǫ·nostrouf) /ˈmɒnəʊstrəʊf/.
Prosody. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
A monostrophic poem.
