Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: mono- comb. form, chloride n.
Etymology: < mono- comb. form + chloride n. Compare earlier monochloro- comb. form, and also earlier bichloride n., dichloride n. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (mǫnoklōə·rəid, -rid) /mɒnəʊˈklɔəraɪd/ /-rɪd/.
