Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: mono- comb. form, carbonate n.
Etymology: < mono- comb. form + carbonate n. Compare earlier bi-carbonate s.v. bi- comb. form 3 and polycarbonate n.
Chemistry. Now rare.
A neutral salt of carbonic acid (H2CO3) in which both hydrogen atoms are replaced by a metal.
