Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French monénergisme.
Etymology: < French monénergisme (1912 in ed. 3 of the passage translated in quot. 1916, or earlier) < mono- mono- comb. form + ancient Greek ἐνέργεια divine action (see energy n.) + -isme -ism suffix. Compare earlier monergism n., monenergist n.Compare German Monenergismus (1906 or earlier).
Theology.
The doctrine (closely resembling Monothelitism) that the two natures in Christ have only ‘one operation’ (μία ἐνέργεια).

1916 H. L. B. tr. J. Tixeront Hist. Dogmas III. vi. 168 The dynamic principle is one, and therefore the energeia, the action and operation of that principle, is one also. This view is called Monenergism.

1994 J. W. Binns Ascetics & Ambassadors of Christ i. ii. 53 His Synodical Letter, sent out as soon as he became Patriarch, expounded the doctrine of the two energies of Christ and was to be a document of central importance in the debate over Monoenergism.
