Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French Modulor.
Etymology: < French Modulor (1948 or earlier: see note below) < module module n. + or or n.1, hence ‘module of the golden section’ (compare golden section n. at golden adj. and n. Compounds 2b).The word was introduced by ‘Le Corbusier’, pseudonym of Charles Édouard Jeanneret (1887–1965), Swiss architect and city planner, who devised the system (see quot. 19481).
A modular system of proportion devised by the architect Le Corbusier, based on dimensions of 7 feet 5 inches (approx. 226.1 cm) and 3 feet 9 inches (114.3 cm), derived from the proportions of an idealized human figure six feet tall, and intended to be used for the coordinated design of buildings, their contents, and their surroundings.

1948 ‘Le Corbusier’ New World of Space 23 The golden section called the ‘Modulor’, a measure by which mathematics and the domain of the human are brought together.
