Greig Astrography vi. 178 Mons Mensae. Signifying the table mountain, from its flat appearance; a mountain of this description is situated at the Cape of Good Hope. The constellation that bears its name, lies between the S. pole of the world, and the S. pole of the ecliptic; and contains 30 small stars. 1899 R. H. Allen Star-names 291 (heading) Mons Mensae, the Table Mountain, now abbreviated by astronomers to Mensa. 1984 M. R. Chartrand Amateur Astron.
