Etymology: < scientific Latin monohemera (1684 or earlier (see below); neuter plural noun < Hellenistic Greek μονοήμερος , variant of μονήμερος lasting one day only < ancient Greek μονο- mono- comb. form + ἡμέρα day: see hemera n.2) + -ous suffix.For use of the scientific Latin noun in an English context, compare:1684 tr. S. Blankaart Physical Dict. 200 Monohemera are Diseases that are cured in one day. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (mǫnohī·mĕrəs) /mɒnəʊˈhiːmərəs/.
Medicine. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Of a disease: lasting or existing only one day.
