Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; perhaps modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: mono- comb. form, -graphy comb. form.
Etymology: < mono- comb. form + -graphy comb. form, perhaps after post-classical Latin monographus (see monographer n.). Compare post-classical Latin monographia (18th cent.), French monographie (1793), German Monographie (1826 or earlier). Compare slightly earlier monographer n.
