Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Mollusca n., -oid suffix.
Etymology: < Mollusca n. + -oid suffix, after French Molluscoïdes (see Molluscoidea n.). With sense A. 2 compare French acné molluscoïde (recorded 1857 in Dunglison Med. Lexicon).

1. Zoology. Of or characteristic of the phylum Mollusca or the former division Molluscoidea; resembling a mollusc. Latterly chiefly in extended use.
