Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: mnemonic adj., -ist suffix.
Etymology: < mnemon- (in mnemonic adj.) + -ist suffix. Compare later mnemonician n. N.E.D. (1907) gives only the pronunciation (nī·mŏnist) /ˈniːmənɪst/. See also the fuller discussion of pronunciation s.v. mnemonic n. and adj.
An expert in mnemonic techniques; a teacher or codifier of such techniques. More generally: a person with very highly developed powers of memory, esp. an entertainer who displays his or her powers of memory.
