Origin: A borrowing from Danish. Etymon: Danish moler.
Etymology: < Danish moler (1776 or earlier)) < Danish regional (northern) mo loose chalky soil (compare Old Icelandic mór , Norwegian mo , Swedish mo sandy heath, further etymology uncertain) + Danish ler loam, clay (compare Norwegian leir , leire , Swedish lera clay: see lair n.2).
A kind of diatomaceous earth found in Denmark and used elsewhere as a building material for its lightness and heat resistance.
