In sense 2 after scientific Latin Mitella, genus name (Linnaeus Species Plantarum (1753) I. 406, after J. Pitton de Tournefort Inst. Rei Herbariæ (ed. 3, 1719) I. 241). N.E.D. (1907) gives only the pronunciation (mite·lă) /mɪˈtɛlə/.
