Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French badinerie.
Etymology: < French badinerie (1537 in Middle French) < badin badine n. + -erie -ery suffix. Compare earlier badinage n., badiner v. N.E.D. (1885) gives only the non-naturalized pronunciation (badi·nəri:) /baˈdinəˌri/.
Badinage, raillery, banter; jesting, frivolity; an instance of this.
