Etymology: < classical Latin absinthium absinthium n. + -an suffix. Compare earlier absinthial adj.In form apsinthian after ancient Greek ἀψίνθιον or Hellenistic Greek ἄψινθος wormwood (for both, see absinthium n.).
rare. Chiefly literary.
Of, relating to, or suggestive of wormwood; bitter, harsh. In later use also: of or relating to absinthe and its properties (esp. its yellow-green colour).
