Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French minuterie.
Etymology: < French minuterie (1912 in this sense; earlier in sense ‘mechanism controlling the hands in a clockwork timepiece’ (1786)) < minute minute n.1 + -erie -ery suffix.
An electric light controlled by a switch incorporating a mechanism that automatically turns the light off a short time after it has been (manually) turned on; (also) the switch itself.
