Origin: A borrowing from Munsee. Etymon: Munsee mə̆nə́sənk.
Etymology: < Munsee (Delaware) mə̆nə́sənk, probably lit. ‘on (or at) the island’ (i.e. Minisink Island in the upper Delaware river, north-eastern United States: see Munsee n. and adj.).The early forms reflect the fact that the word was originally stressed on the second syllable, as in Munsee.
Now chiefly historical.
A member of a group of North American Indians forming a subgroup of the Munsee. Also attributive or as adj. Cf. Munsee n. and adj.
