Origin: Formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: misprint v.
Etymology: < misprint v.British and U.S. dictionaries in the 19th cent. and in the 20th cent. up until the 1960s gave the stress on the second syllable, as in the verb. Editions of D. Jones Eng. Pronouncing Dict. up to ed. 12 gave both the verb and the noun stress-marking on both syllables, with the alternative of stress on the second when the word is preceded by a stress.
An error in the printing of something; a typographical error.
