Originally U.S. A highly energetic style of dance characterized by a combination of stylized footwork and acrobatic, athletic movements; breakdancing.This dance style originated among African Americans and Latinos in the 1970s in the Bronx, New York, and was typically performed to hip hop and related styles of music.This term is generally preferred to breakdancing among participants.
