Etymology: Blend of classical Latin minimus minimus n. and omnibus n. In sense 2 probably independently < mini- comb. form + bus n.1For an early description of the vehicle denoted in sense 1 compare:1844 J. G. Kohl Reisen in Schottland I. 40 Als ich in einem kleinen Minibus durch die brillant illuminirten Strassen..Edinburghs dahin fuhr... [footnote] Diese ‘Minibus’ sind komische kleine einspännige und zweiräderige Wagen für vier Personen, die in Edinburgh in Gebrauch sind... In Glasgow haben sie ähnliche Wagen, die sie ‘noddy’ nennen.
1. Chiefly Scottish. A light horse-drawn vehicle for carrying passengers, used as a cab. Now historical.
