Etymology: < classical Latin miniātus stained red with cinnabar < minium minium n. + -ātus -ate suffix2. Compare earlier miniaceous adj., miniatous adj. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (mi·niĕt) /ˈmɪnɪət/.
rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
