Origin: A borrowing from Hebrew. Etymon: Hebrew minhāg.
Etymology: < post-biblical Hebrew minhāg custom, usage, conduct (in biblical Hebrew ‘driving’; only in 2 Kings 9:20) < Hebrew nāhag to drive, lead (compare Aramaic nĕhag to lead, Arabic nahaja to go along the road).
Judaism.
A custom or practice, esp. one which through long usage has acquired the power of law for a particular Jewish community. Also: the form of liturgy used by a particular Jewish community.
