Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: minchen n., -ry suffix.
Etymology: < minchen n. + -ry suffix with loss of -n- (compare form Minchionrea in quot. 1661).First recorded as the name of the convent building at Littlemore near Oxford, which survives in the name of Minchery Farm (see quot. 1661); subsequently adopted in general application by archaizing writers. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (mi·ntʃəri) /ˈmɪntʃərɪ/.
Obsolete.
