单词 militation
释义

militationn.

Forms: late Middle English mylitatioun, 1600s–1700s militation.
Origin: Perhaps of multiple origins. Either perhaps (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or perhaps (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Probably partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin militation- , militatio ; Latin mīlitāt- , mīlitāre , -ion suffix1, militate v.
Etymology: In quot. a1460 either < post-classical Latin militation-, militatio feudal military service (early 11th cent.; 1200 in a British source) or independently < classical Latin mīlitāt-, past participial stem of mīlitāre militate v. + -ion suffix1; in later use probably independently < militate v. + -ion suffix1: compare -ation suffix.
Obsolete.
Conflict. The sense in quot. a1460 may be ‘military service’, which is the meaning of post-classical Latin militatio.
