释义

minargentn.

Brit. /mᵻˈnɑːdʒ(ə)nt/, U.S. /məˈnɑrdʒ(ə)nt/
Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: French minargent.
Etymology: Apparently < French minargent < -min- (in aluminium aluminium n. and adj.) + argent silver (see argent n.).Although the word minargent appears not to have been recorded in standard French dictionaries, sources agree on a French origin: compare the remarks in quots. 1869 and 1969, and the statement (in the Hachette Encyclopédie online (2001), s.v. orfèvrerie) that the alloy was ‘inventé par Bugniot en 1867’.
