Etymology: < scientific Latin Microzyma (P. J. A. Béchamp 1867 (in French context, with plural agreement), in Comptes rendus de l'Acad. des Sci. 64 1044) < micro- micro- comb. form + -zyma ( < ancient Greek ζύμη leaven: see azyme n.).In later papers in Comptes rendus, Béchamp appears to use microzyma as a naturalized singular, with plural microzymas.

1886 Science 11 June 521/2 It is pretty well known that Béchamp has got up a theory on microzymas, which nobody save himself well understands. Microzymas, according to his idea, are molecular granulations which have existed since the beginning of the world.
