Etymology: < Central Sierra Miwok miw:ɨk, lit. ‘people’, plural of miw:ɨʔ person.The forms without final -k, -c are < the Central Sierra Miwok singular. O.E.D. Suppl. (1976) also gives the pronunciation (məi·wǫk) /ˈmʌɪwɒk/.
